Introducing: Siditty Misses

Over the weekend i had the pleasure to get aquainted with Atlanta's Candace Talbert Finley and her new clothing line, Siditty Misses. I love, love, love the clothing and what it stands for. Siditty Misses is a good blend of modern trendy meets 1950s pin up which i definatly see coming back in the future. Luella did it for it's SS2010 collection and recieved a lot of good views. Im so ready for the bows, the big hair, curve hugging clothing and mini winehouses running around.

Who are the names behind Siditty Misses?
I am the Owner and Designer of the line, my name is Candace Talbert Finley, A very good friend of mine handles the sewing her name is Choua Thao.

Describe your line in 3 words.
over the top.

When did you come up with the idea for the line and what do you want it to stand for.
I've been thinking about doing this for nearly 2 years, its morphed a little bit while i've been mulling it over. I've grown in that time and that why it has both girly things and street wear because I wanted it to encompass two of my favorite aspects of fashion. I want my line to stand for fun, tea parties and be utterly sickening! I want my line to inspire glares of jealousy when its on the backs of girls who are ballsy enough to rock Siditty Misses.

The bows to me look like they will be your signature piece, how did you come about with the idea of these oversized bows?
The bows are the first collection I am doing, yes it will be a signature piece, however, as time goes you all will see less bows (I doubt they will ever leave the line entirely). The bows are just fun, and a tad ridiculous... something like me. I was sketching while thinking of pin-up girls and cartoons and it came to me.

What is the price range of your clothing?
Currently Siditty Misses is ranged from $20-$45

Im excited to see what future pieces you have up your sleeve, can you give us an idea on what to expect in the near future for Saditty Misses?
The future of Siditty Misses might look like a pin-up girl is going on a safari on Mars, or perhaps a chick for the suburbs is going to a party in the hood! Ha! Collections for us will be kinda haphazard just stay tuned, I will say this... expect more dresses.

Who are some of your favorite designers and why?
I love Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B, Betsey Johnson, and Marc Jacobs to name a few, they are fun... never too stuffy, thats what I enjoy. Don't get me wrong designers like Tory Burch, Chloe, Versace, Dolce and lines like that but I love fun stuff more.

How do you feel about the design scene in Atlanta, and what do you want to bring to it?
The design scene in Atlanta is cool, I don't really know many designers personally but I enjoy a lot of their work. I feel like Atlanta doesn't get enough credit, being from California I assumed that the south would be "late",I've learned Atlanta is pretty much an unsung hero to Southern Style. I hope to bring fun, sass, lace and a little Sidittyness!

New Leaders: Meet Passe

Meet Mark and Rhoxi, creators of the blog Passe. There blog is definatly something to follow up on. They write about everything from fashion, life and their everyday ventures.

1. When and how did you guys come up with the idea for P&P?
I (mark) have always had a vision and attachment with history and art as a kid. Passe has always been in us ever since I was a kid drawing dragonball on our walls in our saudi arabia place or building gundams in our philippine house. But, the name formed a few years ago essentially to epitomize culture and history in a word. Which at that time was PRIMITIVE, but due to some problems we ended with what is now Passe'; french for "something that has been done"--it carries a big negative connotation in the word. But, we like it, we believe in it. Using a negative as a positive afterall our past isn't so pretty, but Passe represents the knowledge of our past and the idea that our society is formed from our past.

2. Everyone has a direct purpose for creating their blogs, what where yours? What kind of audience did you want to target?
An awareness of knowledge and the sociological construct is what I want for people to get out of us. Break the norms and the typical things we see in our everyday lives, be different "ITS COOL" lol. I mean it is to show our passion and love for art, knowledge, and fashion. But, I believe it's to bring back the quintessential artists in us. There's a lot of blogs and movements out there, but our true purpose is to just show growth and appreciation for what we love and do.

3. Where are you guys from/based?
Well we were born in the Philippines and traveled everywhere, but now we live in Los Angeles, California

4. The both of you have very unique styles, what every day things influenced it (people, movies, music, artist, designers)?
Rhoxi:I can honestly, just my everyday life and Life in general is my influence for my style. I can be inspired by something random like a piece of art, what I'm feeling that day, or something from a runway show. My style is me, my life.

Mark: Yeah well I've always been the odd ball in everything I do, so it's only right that I incorporate that within my stye. My style consists of well invested high end things with a classical piece. I don't remember ever walking out the house with having bally's on or any piece that's highly valued. It's a "lifestyle"--really it is. We eat, sleep, breathe this. My father used to rock YSL,Bally,Versace, so, I get some of the things from him he inspires me and also the places I have visited. You wanna tell a story with the way you dress, act, walk ,speak, etc.

5. Who are your favorite designers/clothing lines, and why?
Rhoxi: Hmm. I do not have a favorite designer. How I see it is. Being a designer is a job and all of them are the best at what they do, incorporating something new to this fashion world everyday whether only five people know and appreciate it or 5 million people. Everyone is offering something different, raw ideas, and there's always beauty I find in each from simply the fabric selection or the way the zipper was sawn on to a garment so having a favorite is questionable because I respect and admire each and every designer

Mark: Alber Elbaz I think truly capsulates my idea for a well dressed man lately within the S/S F/W 08-09 in Lanvin. But, Ralph Lauren has always been what I had on ever since a kid. Karl Lagerfeld, Pierre Cardin, Yohji yamamoto Gianni Back when it was the golden days of versace, Jeremy Scott, These are just a few, I can go for days.

6. I read on your blog that the two of you have a clothing line in the works. What can we expect from your pieces and how is it coming along?
Well the clothes have always been another purpose to why we do this, if not the heart so to speak. Well within the time we've had we're still in the process of having a proper platform and getting our theme right at the spot. We're sort of limited within the dimension we're able to do being that it's early in our careers, but we'll see how it comes along. We'll be alright. We don't work to satisfy the mass it's to educate and improve.

7. How did you guys get started with styling?
Well we've always been consulting people for style, giving tips and such. But, before when we had Prmtve.com we recieved a lot of views, I mean 50,000 and more in a 2 weeks. But, anyway turns out Polo the Don and his engineer had been on our site with the word given by my stylist friend and from there we went on.

8. What other projects are you currently working on.
We are currently building a massive transformer called PASSE PRIME lol, kidding. We'll let's see we're working a lot on the clothes and the collaboration for the brain caps, people might see me with from time to time. Basically building family relationships with companies. You will see a lot this summer, I promise.

9. What advice can you give others that want to pursue creative jobs such as styling and designing?
Rhoxi:One advice, don't be scared to play around with your creativity. I see it as being given a specific art to paint and its pretty much painting on a plain canvas using your creative ideas within you. and Believe in what you're capable of doing because everything starts with YOU

Mark:I know a lot of people say this, but It's all about belief in yourself. Fuck (sorry for the language) the school. If the doors aren't opening or there aren't any--build your own. Know and understand your true passion and purpose- then just kill and deliver at what you do. Perfect it.
I always found it foolish to build another product of yourself when styling, I think people have that misconception that your suppose to make them look like you , NO! My sister and I are the portfolio to our work. But, we consult style based from the attitude and everything else of our client.

10. Anything else you would like to add?
Rhoxi:First, I want to Thank you Noelle for this splendid interview. But, I want to thank everyone for the Love and appreciation for Passe. There's no better feeling to know people appreciate your craft and what we're about, so thank you! :) Stay tune for our line and stay connected with us...

"We are what we will never be...Passe."

Mark: Knowledge is power, School is cool, but you can be cooler.lol Please dig within yourself and culture and better yourself everyday every season. We are all a product of society, we conducted this for us to all fit in, change that and be different. After that you've completed a good life( and have ice cream, girls and sunglasses.)

Meet : Avriel

Avriel has been in front of the television cameras most of her young life, starting first with commercials for McDonalds, Washington Mutual, Bumble Ball as well as appearances on Mad TV and Hannah Montana. She then graduated to speaking roles such as the voice of Little Timberly on Nickelodeon's Hey Arnold!, and the leading roles in a number of indie films. But acting and modeling are only a small component of the multi-faceted young teen’s make up. As a singer, producer, songwriter and composer, the young starlet’s musical prowess is enhanced by her formal training as an accomplished pianist, violinist and guitarist making her a quadruple musical threat. The hint of husk which coats her vocal chords, and the maturity of her insightful songwriting gives the young songstress the spirit of an old soul who has been here before (source).

I love coming across artist who are truly talented and passionate about what they create. Avriel's style is refreshing and new. She is definitely among the few artist that i don't get that heavy copy and paste vibe from. Do listen to her music and expect to see her name again pretty soon.

NAME: Avriel SIGN: Aries BASED: LA AGE: 17 WHAT KEEPS YOU GOING: My desire to learn new things 3 WORDS THAT DESCRIBE YOU: artistic, well-read, empathetic (FILL IN THE BLANK) i'LL RETIRE WHEN _____: I don't think you can ever retire from being an artist. At least I don't ever want to retire from that. FAVORITE DESIGNER: Gareth Pugh. I idolize him. HAD MOST FUN WORKING WITH(in terms of music or modeling): I've worked with so many talented and amazing people in this industry, I honestly couldn't say. LOOK FORWORD TO DURING 09: Well I'm going to be featured on a Vimby Mixtape coming out a little later this month called The New Classics, so check that out! DESCRIBE YOUR MUSIC STYLE: Pop Progressive. A little bit of Andre 3000 meets Kelis. But, everything I?m working on now is very textural and futuristic, think N.E.R.D. meets Animal Collective. (FILL IN THE BLANK) DONT TOUCH MY ______ : Biscuits! I loooooove biscuits. Honey's Kettle biscuits are my absolute favorite! NEVER LEAVE HOME WITHOUT: My blackberry. Sad to say I am addicted. WHAT ARTIST INFLUENCED YOU: I am influenced by everything i hear, honestly. I try to take something from every piece of music i listen to. (FILL IN THE BLANK) I CANT STAND ______ : cliches! or illiterate people. There's never an excuse to be illiterate, public libraries are free and open to the public. READ A BOOK! haha. FASHION SPECTATOR OR INNOVATOR? Both. I feel learning and creating go hand in hand. You have to observe what other people do, then imitate first, emulate second, and innovate lastly. Even if the outside world doesn't witness the first two steps, it's still important to understand what came before you to figure out how to improve upon it. That's the only way to keep progressing in any art form. TRENDS/FADS THAT ERK YOU: The whole 80s/90s kid trend. Thank God that's finally going out of style! the 90s grunge look doesn't bother me as much. But, there's a reason why Gareth is my favorite designer. I like when artists push boundaries and look to the future! FAVORITE MAGAZINE or BOOK: Italian Vogue and W are my favorite magazines. My favorite two books of all time are Letters To a Young Poet by Rainer Maria Rilke, and the Conversations With God series by Neale Donald Walsch MOVIE CHARACTER U WOULD LIKE TO BE IN REAL LIFE: This is really cliche, so i hate to say it, but I was the real life Holly Golightly in my past life. HEAVY ROTATION SONGS ON YOUR PLAYLIST: In my itunes the songs with the highest play count are Easy To Please by Coldplay, Take Off Your Cool by Andre 3000 and Norah Jones, and Skinny Love by Bon Iver DUMBEST THING YOU'VE EVER DONE: I'm a klutz, I lie, and get caught, and break rules consistently. I do numerous dumb things every day. haha FAVORITE QUOTE: "Things are not all so comprehensible and expressible as one would mostly have us believe; most events are inexpressible, taking place in a realm which no word has ever entered, and more inexpressible than all else are works of ark, mysterious existences, the life of which, while ours passes away, endures." -Rainer Maria Rilke LAST WORD FOR THE KIDDIES : ummm... mysapce me!!! =] haha www.myspace.com/Avriel
